Ittihad of Religious parties against seculars by Shaykh Ismaeel Salafi
Shaykh Isma'eel Salafi’s article “The continuous course of action of Markazi Jamiat Ahl e Hadith for the Ittihad of Religious parties” as present in "Nigar Shaat" p 539 and after:
“The activity of the election board of Markazi Jamiat Ahl e Hadith Maghrabi Pakistan which has been published in Al-Itisam’s August number, the election board has compiled a speech for press release, which summary is that the invitation for Ishtirak e Amal given by Nizam e Islam Party and Jamate Islami for the next elections, the election board has examined with compassion the invitation of these 2 Jamaats and decided according to its ancient and continuous course of action that Jamaats who are religious minded (Deen Pasand) THEIR WORKING TOGETHER in this critical moment is an extreme necessity, and to decide further details the president of Markazi Jamiat Ahl e Hadith has been mandated to speak to leaders of these Jamaats so the election board can make its final decision.
After publishing this decision some of our well wishers have criticised us in some form that this action of the Ahl e Hadith Jamaat is against Islamic teachings or Islamic necessities or that it is not suitable for the Jamaat Ahl e Hadith. To make such friends aware with all the readers of Al-Itisam, we felt the necessity to mention the course of action of Markazi Jamiat Ahl e Hadith, which has been continuous since 1952, with such details so that the reality is made aware to all, that Markazi Jamiat Ahl e Hadith has been doing efforts to make a UNITED FRONT with parties holding a religious mind to oppose all anti-religious forces, and without any distinction or particularity, it has been inviting for Ittihad all religious parties for a COMMON ISLAMIC BENEFIT.
For the Islamic constitution:
First when the necessity was felt to make a united front for calling for an Islamic constitution, then Markazi Jamiat agreed to this call, and participated through its representants in the gathering of Karachi which took place at the beginning of 1952. In this gathering, Jamiat Ullama e Islam, Jamiat UIlama e Pakistan, Jamiat Ahl e Hadith, Jamate Islami, so Deobandi, Ahl e Hadith, Brewli, Shia and Sunni, all these sects’ respected scholars participated in it. And it can be said with pride that to oppose anti-religious forces, the way ALL MUSLIMS FROM DIFFERENT SCHOOLS OF THOUGHTS gave a proof of Ittihad e Amal and Wahdat e Fikr (unity of thought), this is a very important event in the history of Islam
Tahafuz Khatme Nubuwwat:
The Tahreek (movement) of Khatme Nubuwwat which was launched in 1952 for uprooting the Qadiyani Fitnah, in it as well distinguished leaders Jamiat Ullama e Islam, Jamiat Ullama e Pakistan, Jamiat Ahl e Hadith, Jama'at Islami, Idarah Tahafuz Huquq Shiah and Majlis Ahrar Al-Islam participated. To make this Tahreek successful the leaders of all school of thoughts of Muslims took part in it, and no question was raised from any corner of the country or from a religious circle, why there is a representant of this Aqidah in Majlis Tahafuz Khatme Nubuwwat or that because of difference in beliefs, this and that person should not participate in it?
The main resolution passed at the annual conference Lailpur of Markazi Jamiat Ahl e Hadith, and the newspapers of the country welcomed it, was that the Islam Pasand (Islam minded) groups should make a united front. This resolution was very detailed and it was published in "Al-Itisam" in the number of the 8 April 1955. In this resolution, after mentioning the political, economical, and Akhlaaqi conditions in Pakistan, it was said: "Due to the circumstances, this sitting comes to the conclusion that to reform these conditions, it is necessary that all the Islamic groups and parties who consider the Deen as a central point of their activities in Pakistan gather on one such program that can become a mean for the Baqa and Tahafuz of Islam, and protection of Pakistan and success in the aim of making it into an Islamic state
The gathering in the Office of Markazi Jamiat:
To give an acting form to this resolution, Markazi Jamiat invited respected leaders of different religious parties for a sitting on the 10 April 1955. With the leaders of Markazi Jamiat Ahl e Hadith, the leaders of Jamiat Ullama Islam Kull Pakistan, Molana Mufti Muhammad Hasan, Molana Zafar Hasan Usmani Thanvi, Molana Mufti Muhammad Shafee Deobandi, Molana Muhammad Mateen Khateeb, Molana Mutee Al-Haqq, Allamah Alaudin Siddiqi, Molana Abdul'Aleem Qasimi, the director of Jamaat Islami Pakistan Mian Muhammad Tufail, Molana Malak Nasrullah Khan Azeez, Naeem Siddiqi, Mian AbdulBari the leader of the opposition party in Punjab Assembly participated in it. Molana Abul Hasanat, the president of Jamiat Ullama Pakistan was also invited but he had gone to Chakwal hence he could not participate in it.
Molana Sayid Muhammad Dawood Ghaznawi, the president of Markazi Jamiat, explaining the resolution of Lailpur Conference (which has been mentioned previously) made an appeal to the leaders of all schools of thoughts that FOR THE TAHAFUZ OF THE IJTIMAI BENEFIT OF ISLAM, they should put their differences in a circle, and MAKE A STRONG UNITED FRONT AGAISNT THE GROWING FLOOD OF LAA DEENIYAT AND THE TORNADO OF ILHAD AND ZANDAQAH. The participants all agreed on this aim and promised to work in their circles of influence for it.
The appeal of the leaders:
After this the leaders of the Religious parties published a common statement in all the newspapers in April 1955 which were signed by Shaykh Abul Hasanat, the president of Markazi Jamiat Ullama e Islam Pakistan, Shaikh Mufti Muhammad Hasan, the president of Jamiat Ullama Islam Kull Pakistan, Shaykh Sayid Dawood Ghaznawi, the president of Markazi Jamiat Ahl e Hadith Maghrabi Pakistan, Shaikh Ameen Ahsan Islahi, the president of of Jamate Islami Pakistan and other leaders.
In this common appeal, all the parties said it is known from the situation created by the ruling cast that by propagating hatred and revilement among the laymen towards the people of knowledge and religion, they want to terminate the sanctity of Islamic values and they are preparing minds for it, and they want that different Religious parties be at each others’ throats so by terminating their collective strength, they want to open the way for Laa Deeniyat (Non-religiosity)
The leaders of the Religious parties said that they were making an appeal from their hearts to the people to turn all their attention from matters of differences to defend the pillars of Islam and to spend their attention on its Istihkam, and to be resolute that at least until the strength of the tornado of Ibahat Pasandi (favouring to make forbidden matters permissible), non-religiosity and Ilhad is broken and the atmosphere returns to its normality, instead of spending their attention on Furui and matters of differences, they should pay their attention to defend from the attack waged on the pillars of the Religion.
The resolutions of the annual conference of Gujranwala and Sarghoda also expressed such kinds of thoughts.
Hence Markazi Jamiat AHL e Hadith, based upon its continuous and Marboot course of action, is ready to do Ittihad e Amal with all Religious groups, whether it is the Deobandi's Jamiat Ullama Islam, or Brelwi's Jamiat Ullama Pakistan, or Jamate Islami or Majlis Ahrar Islam, it is ready to do Ishtiraak e Amal and make a common rank against the Ibahat Pasand and La Deeni powers.
And we do not feel any apprehension to express our undefeatable certainty that "if these religious groups are busy between themselves, it will benefit the group which since long wants to establish a Laa Deeni state (Non-religious state) and by spreading hatred and revilement among laymen towards the people of knowledge and people of the Religion, they want them to turn away from the Religion and they want that the Religious groups be at each others’ throats so they terminate the collective strength of Islam
Before Ramadhan Mubarak
Before the previous Ramadhan Mubarak some sincere Muslims of Lahore called a sitting of all the leaders of the Religious parties at Mochi Door. In this sitting Shaykh Ahmad Ali, the president of Jamiat Ullama Islam Maghrabi Pakistan, Shaykh Abul Hasanat, the president of Jamiat Ullama Islam Pakistan, Shaykh Sayid Dawood Ghaznawi, the president of Jamiat Ahll e Hadith Maghrabi Pakistan, and the director of Jamate Islami Mian Muhammad Tufayl and other leaders attended this sitting. The callers of the sitting made an appeal to all the leaders of the Religious parties that the elections are getting near, and if the Religious parties do not work on mutual Ishtiraak then the result is evident, the forces that have control over us, their control will become stronger, and the shame brought on Religious values, it will reach its peak. Shaykh Ahmad Ali replied first to this appeal and said that he was ready, and the leaders of the other parties also supported this, only Shaykh Abul Hasanat said that he will first consult his party then reply.
In all case we have to see an elder such as Shaykh Ahmad Ali who is the respected president of Jamiat Ullama Islam Maghrabi Pakistan, and under his supervision the magazine “Tarjuman Islam” is published, he was the first to accept a united Islamic Front, the united Islamic front to which the leaders of Jamiat Ullama Pakistan, Jamiat Ullama Islam, Jamate Islami and Jamaat Ahl e Hadith were invited to join.
We had to mention the continuity of this United Islamic Front (Muttahidah Islami Mahaz) because up to today, whenever the issue of Ishtiraak e Amal of different Religious parties was raised, it was acted upon, and apart the Mirzai Jamaat, never where there any question raised that this Jamaat should not be associated and this Jamaat should be associated.
Sitting for Ittihad between Shiah and Sunni
When the present government of Maghrabi Pakistan made an appeal for Shia Sunni Ittihad, all the heads and respected leaders of the groups signed it and when the government established a committee, all the heads of the groups expressed their willingness to participate in it. Thus in the committee Shaykh Abul Hasanat, Shaykh Ahmad Ali, Shaykh Mawdudi, Shaykh Dawood Ghaznawi and other elders were seen to sit next to each other, and they showed with their action that keeping their differences in creed in its place, they had the capacity to gather in one place and work attached to one Jamaat for the common and general Islamic benefit.
Why this anger?
Is it not a matter of astonishment and surprise that when the government presents a recommendation for the Ittihad of Islamic sects, which will make the government of the republican party stronger, then neither the leaders of Jamiat Ullama Islam have an objection with Jamate Islami, nor the Brelwis leaders have an objection to the participation of Ahl e Hadith and Deobandis, and when the advise to enact Ittihad e Amal of the Religious parties to defeat the ruling Laa Deeni forces, comes forward then the pages of our newspapers and our speakers on the stages use their magical speeches that there cannot be Ittihad e Amal with such groups and we cannot stand to sit with such Jamaat, so it is known that a hidden hand is working which does not accept that the religious groups make a united front and form a united rank against the La Deeni forces, and this hidden hand’s preoccupation is that the Religious parties should fight and their strength should be diminished so they can take benefit from it.
A heartfelt appeal
Finally I will request all the leaders of the Religious groups and in particular Shaykh Ahmad Ali that they should reflect with care that if conflict between religious groups remain, all the Religious groups will face defeat and the La deeni groups will benefit from it, and these La Deeni forces will occupy and control with full strength the positions and posts. At this time, the spectre of them disfiguring the Islamic teachings, disrespecting the Religious values, spreading hate and revilement of the scholars and making their lives difficult, thinking about this make the hair of the body stand straight.
Now is the time to assess the reality correctly and not to take a step which will strengthen the La Deeni forces and bring shame and revilement to the scholars. Can you imagine for a second that if the religious oriented parties are in conflict then the people who are already not attracted to Religion or are averse to Religious fights, will they not curse both of the Religious parties in conflict, and will they not favour participation in the Republican Party if not for the worldly benefits? Tell me dear leaders, will this action not indirectly the Republicans?
